1.(Bot.)A genus of plants of the Poppy
family.
☞ Sanguinaria Canadensis, or bloodroot, is the only
species. It has a perennial rootstock, which sends up a few roundish
lobed leaves and solitary white blossoms in early spring. See
Bloodroot.
2.The rootstock of the bloodroot, used in
medicine as an emetic, etc.
