Hæm`a*tox"y*lin (-tŏks"ĭ*lĭn), n. [See Hæmatoxylon.] (Chem.) The coloring principle of logwood. It is obtained as a yellow crystalline substance, C16H14O6, with a sweetish taste. Formerly called also hematin.
