fr. L. benedicta, fem. of benedictus, p. p., blessed. See
Benedict, a.] (Bot.) The common
yellow-flowered avens of Europe (Geum urbanum); herb bennet. The
name is sometimes given to other plants, as the hemlock, valerian,
etc.
